The Southeast Ohio Public Energy Council offers an important service as a community energy aggregator through its commitment to develop regional renewable energy sources. As more southeast Ohio communities join SOPEC, the bargaining power of the council to develop clean, reliable sources of energy for its members becomes stronger.
SOPEC views renewable energy as an opportunity to reduce this region’s impact on the environment, to create local jobs in the energy sector, and to participate in a sustainable clean energy transition.
As the country collectively moves to develop a sustainable and efficient energy economy, SOPEC has a goal of bringing energy developers, utilities, and community officials together to provide a range of options for energy users to support renewable energy development.
As a member and energy user of SOPEC, you can opt-in to the standard 25% renewables or the 100% renewables program. This is possible because as SOPEC purchases energy, a portion of that transaction supports renewable energy credits (RECs), which helps tell energy developers where investment money is for starting new energy generation projects. You can help support the development of renewable energy as a member of SOPEC by opting-in to the 25% or 100% plan.
